Double Rainbow Design: Whitney Elliott

When I discovered Whitney I had no idea I was finding a soul mate. There are so many sweet parallels between our lives like her last name being my son’s name, we are both Pisces, wren’s nested near out homes, and we are hardworkin’ mommas! Whitney is ‘mother nature Jr.’ and the Earth just seems to speak to her. I was searching for the right person to make macrame cords for my glass frames for the longest time now, and when someone tagged this woman I knew she was the best person for the job! So you guys know the deal by now: I interviewed Whitney so she could share her best vibes with us:

Tell us about you!!

My name is Whitney Elliott, I am a fiber artist from the Eastern Shore of Maryland and I have four kiddos, a husband, and a gang of green children (aka houseplants). I began my fiber arts journey in 2018 as I was healing from two miscarriages back to back. Double Rainbow Design is lovingly named in memory of my two angel babies.

Where do you draw inspiration from?

My biggest inspiration is Mother Nature. I am constantly amazed by the beautiful things we have in this earth, and I love spending time outside vibing with Mother Earth, and surrounding myself in nature.

What do you hope your artwork does for others?

My number one intention when sending my art to its new home is to send it with joy. I hope that my art always sparks joy. I imagine someone having a hard day and walking into their space seeing their new piece of artwork on the wall and just getting filled up with so much joy and happiness.

How does one custom order?

Custom orders can be made by sending me a DM on social media or an email. The custom ordering process involves a conversation where I try to get to know each customer and their space and intentions for that space. Some things I usually ask for are the kind of piece you’re looking for, measurements, color choices, and photos of your space. The more info, the better!

How do you balance Motherhood, marriage, and work?

Ah, the balance! I’m not sure I’ll ever get it right, but I try hard now to treat my business as a 9-5 job so that I am able to separate myself from my work and spend time with my family. Does it always work that way? Absolutely not! I think it’s a constant work in progress, but I allow myself grace often.

What is your dream piece you have been wanting to macrame, but haven’t had the oppurtunity yet?

I think I have more of a dream scenario as opposed to a dream piece. I would love to create for an entire wedding ceremony and reception. I imagine a huge, dreamy backdrop, bouquet wraps for the bride and all of the bridesmaids, placemats, table runners, plant hangers, oh my! So yeah, an entire wedding with Double Rainbow Design originals everywhere.

About our collaboration: Cruelty free straps for glass artwork! Whitney dyed some of the fiber with avocado pits, I have been cooking a bit more lately, and we saw it fitting for me to paint some fruits and veggies for a few of these!! We will be hosting a giveaway on July 17th and a shop update that same day!
