Interview with September Collaborator: Celeste Addison

Celeste and I found each other through Instagram! right away was drawn to her abstract Brush strokes and bold color choice. Her work is so different from my own that it felt fitting to see how we would work together. I love the juxtaposition of abstraction paired with romantic florals. Celeste is so inspiring, and as always here is her interview:

Tell us about yourself!

I'm Celeste, a self taught abstract artist and interior designer working out of a small in-home studio in Valdez, Alaska.

From a young age I have always believed that art and design are the ultimate ways to express oneself. My biggest passion is taking colors and pouring them out onto a canvas in a way that will stir up emotion in the most classic, elegant way.

Nothing inspires me to create like creation. I find inspiration in floral scenes, natural gemstones, cute animals and beautiful landscapes. I like to paint these pictures out using acrylic paint, sometimes mixed with resin.

How did you get started as an independent artist?

In 2016 my husband Cody and I bought our first home. I started painting to decorate our home… but even after every single wall was a gallery wall filled with art I just wanted to make more art to display! Cody suggested I start an Etsy shop so that my art could bring joy to more homes!

Who are your biggest inspirations?

Gotta go with a classic first lol, I looooove Picasso. He is always my go to for so many reasons but I think the biggest reason is because he didn’t just stick to one medium or style; which is inspiring to me because I enjoy switching up my art medium quite a bit!

Modern day inspirations I would have to say Mallory McCammy and Mrs colorberrry

What is your favorite color palette to work with?

I’m obsessed with greens and yellows!! I think my favorite color palette would have to include a few different greens, light and mustard yellow, and teals and blues as well

Do you feel like your artwork has a special purpose, or meaning that you want the world to see and feel? What is your aim in selling your work?

I want my art to give a sense of completion to the room it’s going in. I create all sorts of different art and I feel like the one thing they all have in common is they can complete the room. I want you to feel a sense of relief every time you walk in a room and see either my coaster set on your table or a large painting hanging on your wall and know that your house is more of a home because of this artwork.

What type of artwork do you offer? How many people order commissions from you?

I offer many different types of artwork.

I do resin paintings, coasters and charcuterie boards;, I work with glass, painting mountains, florals or wedding pictures; I paint on paper or canvas making abstract mountain scapes, floral designs or animals; and I draw digitally using procreate where I make my prints stickers and other recreations as well as images for local businesses.

I only offer about 20 spots for commissions per year, generally just for wedding photo commissions or resin commissions. I am always happy to take on one or two more commissions if I have the time.

Lastly, what sort of cool new projects can we expect to see from you in the upcoming months?

I just started making resin earrings and hand painted glass framed necklaces! I’m not sure how I will go about releasing those online… but keep an eye out! I am also putting together paint by number kits so people have something fun to do while staying safe at home.
