Cultivating creativity 8 week Wild Explorer course (March 10th- April 28th) Deadline to register: February 21st
Join Abby’s 8 week art class
March 10th-April 28th
Meeting every Monday 10am-12pm at or nearby the parks scheduled on Facebook for our normal meetings
A more detailed scope & sequence and schedule with meeting places will be given in the next few weeks. Kim and I will work together to make any changes needed to the meetup places!
Ages 10+
Each student will get a sketchbook at the beginning of class, and we will work to fill the pages up in it throughout the 8 week course together. Toward the end of the class we will create a collaborative project together to be displayed in our community!
Often times we want kids to have everything at their disposal to create, but as is with life we grow the most when we have limited resources and have to think of new ways to make things happen. One of the first challenges for the students will be to explore color and reduce their palette to only 5 colors for the next few weeks.
As the weeks continue we will have new challenges similar to these that will call for the kids to think differently and more mindfully about making. This is an important skill in self discovery and creativity, but also fosters empathy. When we see how challenging things can be in something as simple as art, we can start to imagine how everyone has different resources in life!
The ultimate goal is for the kids to grow a mindful creative practice that they can use as a tool in life for however they see fit! The kids will have opportunities to share what they are feeling or creating if they see fit, but it will not be a requirement.
During our time together we will be exploring:
-Multiple art materials (mediums)
-Working in different environments (indoors/outdoors/ in a public space) all of these present new challenges and opportunities.
-Collaboration in our sketchbooks and also on a larger group project
-Artists presently and in the past and how they work.
-The ways in which art and creativity is a bidirectional relationship (meaning you are not just telling the art what to do, but it is telling you things about yourself as well) and how to use it as a tool to explore the self or communicate like a language.
-Seeing art all around us, because it’s often taken for granted
-Using our sketchbook as a visual journal daily (or at least 3 times a week)
Your child will receive:
-A sketchbook in the color of their choosing
-A prompt list full of ideas if they like to have a jumping off point for their at home personal practice
-Access to a range of mediums and materials
-Two guests artist experiences where they will gain insight about different ways of working
Materials needed before the course starts:
-A pencil case (preferably a hard one - This allows for their tools to be seen easily for the creative process, but contained)
-Any of their favorite art materials (this is only if they want to bring something they love, they do not have to share it, and is completely optional)
Payment information:
-All parents need to pay for their child’s supplies fee (unless you are a free/trade participant)
-The rest of the payment is by donation per child. Pay what you can out of the options below. If you would like to help fund another spot for someone else in the group to have access to this for free you may choose that option as well. If you need to have access to this for your child for free or for trade, please email me at abbylynneart@gmail.com or text me (my number is in the roster on the wild explorers page). Everyone is welcome to participate, and how you got to this class will remain private.
-During checkout you will be required to “register” your child and answer some questions, this is where they can choose the color of their sketchbook.
-Add all of your items to the cart per child before checking out.
-The supply fee and donation option are on a separate listing so that you don’t have to fill out the form for your child 1 million times
